Body Dysmorphic Disorder Foundation

The Body Dysmorphic Disorder Foundation is a London based charity who help people suffering from BDD, they fund research to better understand the condition and to advance treatment methods.

BDD is a mental illness where patients become obsessed with perceived flaws in their appearance, it isn’t well understood, and is a growing field of interest amongst many psychiatrists. It results in symptoms that mirror obsessive compulsive disorder, and people who have it may be more likely to commit suicide than people with other mental illnesses.

The Anxiety and Depression Association of America says around 1 percent of the population is affected. In Western cultures, men and women are equally likely to have moderate to severe cases of it.

People with BDD commonly also suffer from the anxiety disorders obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) or social anxiety disorder, as well as depression and eating disorders.

The BDDF website has a list of celebrities who exhibited BDD symptoms.
